Responsibilities: Curriculum instruction, inspiration, and growth

 

Curriculum and instruction

Be on site and full of life, doing whatever it takes to create peace, harmony and learning at school from 7:45 am - 5:30pm Monday and Wednesday, plus 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Friday for 42 weeks per year. Ensure that all students are progressing through the curriculum, having fun, and improving themselves as people along the way. Teach in a multi age, grade 1-4 elementary level classroom. Assist in the selection and effective implementation of elite curricula. Develop where necessary, and execute daily/weekly lesson plans to ensure student learning, engagement, creativity, and a joy in learning. Differentiate instruction to multiple age/level students ensuring that all students are progressing in an individualized and timely fashion. Utilize older children to assist the younger ones. Provide special instruction to students who are struggling at their given level, and provide extra supplemental challenges to students who need to be pushed. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, inviting, developmentally appropriate, musical, rhythmic, vibrant, nurturing, colorful, and within the school guidelines. Schedule Friday Q&A hours by phone or email for questions and concerns that students and/or parents may have regarding education-related issues that could not be handled during the school day. Do what it takes for students to excel in gaining wisdom particularly in the areas of leadership, business, and character development.

 

Growth

Create and execute best teaching practices in conjunction with other school faculty to constantly improve student achievement and instruction. Administer interim student and peer assessments. Seek to constantly develop and improve teaching practices through ongoing feedback with the headmaster and other school faculty. Participate in continuing education to improve your instructional practice and knowledge of the curricula. Support fellow teachers within the school so that they may become better teachers.

 

School culture and professionalism

Help create a positive learning environment by building rapport with students, parents and staff. Inspire creativity by incorporating all 5 senses (particularly hearing, seeing, and feeling) into learning. Hold high expectations for each student. Implement school-wide “good citizen” and positive behavior support systems consistently with all students. Model the values of The School of the Seven Sages and set the standard for professional behavior.  Follow and enforce school policies.

 

Qualifications and Key Attributes

A minimum of 5 years experience as a lead teacher at the grade school level is required. Formal training and/or experience with the trivium, Waldorf Schools, Kipp Schools, or a classical private school is a plus. Experience working with gifted child is desired as is Teach for America experience. Experience with previously owning, operating or managing a business is strongly desired but not required. Must have a passion for being creative, part of a team, mission-driven, and developing others. Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of others. Must be extremely well organized and neat. Excellence, Perseverance, Creativity, Teamwork, Artistic, Social Responsibility, Integrity, Ingenuity, Driven, Dedicated, and a Strategic Thinker.

 

Compensation

Salaries are competitive with those of full time teachers at local private schools, however, as listed above, the school year will be 3 days per week, 42 weeks per year. A 4 year commitment is requested with bonuses paid at the end of each 4 year cycle. Continuing education available. Partial tuition credit is available to teachers who enroll their children or grandchildren – inquire for full details.

Teachers

 

Wise teachers are the life blood of the School of the Seven Sages. Do you have what it takes to train up children in the way they should go in a rapidly chaning envinormnet?  Do you have vast life experiences which will help in the growth and personal development of students? Rather than being the "sage on the stage", we seek to hire "guides on the side" who encourage students to take an active role in their acquirement of knowledge. We are actively hiring experienced teachers.

Electives

 

Electives at the School of the Seven Sages are offered by independant vendors. Some electives we are currenlty seeking to source are Yoga, Tumbling, Chess, Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Spanish. If you have a business focusing in one of these areas or would like to offer your services on a part time basis, we'd like to hear from you.
