Tuition and Fees
2016 - 2017 academic year
By design, the school refuses to accept any federal, state, or local money. We do not want any undue influence on the quality of a School of the Seven Sages education, and we want to be as free as possible to offer the best education to our students - regardless of politics. The school functions exclusively upon the tuition and fees it receives from parents. Thank you!
The yearly budget is based upon the number of students enrolled in the school. Therefore, families are expected to commit to the entire academic school year. Tuition is non-refundable. Exceptions will be made solely for the following documentable reasons: death of a parent, guardian or sibling; long term medical disability of the student; job loss of a parent; or parental job transfer of more than 100 miles. No other exceptions will be made. We encourage students to complete the year for stability of the entire class. If you are unsure about an annual commitment, please consider purchasing tuition insurance.
Tuition at the School of the Seven Sages is for a 39 week school year. Please note that Georgia public schools, and most local private schools, are only in school for 36 weeks per school year. Parent's whose children are enrolled in one of those other programs, often need to find summer camps for their children. The 39 week school year of the School of the Seven Sages saves parents the hassle of finding a few summer camps at additional cost. As most parents realize, change, particularly with schedule, is difficult for children to handle and usually leads to tumultuous times. The longer school year, therefore, also nurtures the child more by extending the time in which they are in a set schedule. Of course, the longer schedule also leads to more time spent learning. The longer school year, therefore, provides less cost, less stress on the child, and more learning. Don't worry, there will still be time for that summer family vacation!
Tuition for grades K-4 does NOT include breakfast or lunch. A breakfast and/or lunch plan are available at additional costs. Where possible, organic ingredients will be used for breakfast and lunch. Students are allowed to bring their own breakfasts and lunches from home but eating a good and healthy (low sugar) breakfast and lunch is required. The school maintains a STRICT no food sharing policy (due to allergies and also to limit the spread of germs). Please explain to your children that it is nice to share, but it is against school rules to share food.
Tuition and fees
-
$150 - application fee (non-refundable). After the first year, the registration fee is the same price as the application fee. Either an application fee or a registration fee are paid each year, but not both in the same year. (Maximum application/registration fee per family = $400 / year)
-
$5,590 - tuition for grades K-4. $2,500 of the tuition is due at registration (reservation fee). Tuition, including the portion labeled as the reservation fee, are non-refundable as outlined above.
-
$100 - supply fee (non refundable)
-
$800 - breakfast plan (optional)
-
$1,000 - lunch plan (optional). Lunches are also available on a per day basis for $10 and must be ordered through the school 1 week in advance. School lunches will be provided 3 days per week and feature mostly organic ingredients.
-
$350 - tuition insurance (optional). A 30 day notice of student withdrawal is required to make a tuition insurance claim. The deductible is $300 and the balance of tuition will be refunded pro rata for those months beyond the 30 day notice. If applicable, tuition insurance also covers the lunch plan on a pro rata basis.
-
Books and materials including text books, work books, home study supplies, flash cards, Cds, personal supplies, etc. To save costs, parents may whish to purchased used items and utilize the library whenever possible.
-
Clothing in accordance with the schools dress code.
-
8 hours of parent volunteer time per semester (1 day/semester or split over 2 half days). This is used to help keep costs low. It also provides parents with direct insight to what is happening at school. Parents will also benefit from watching a professional teacher interact with their child.
The cost of tuition at the School of the Seven Sages is significantly cheaper than elite private school educations. This substantial savings comes from fewer days in school per week, more school weeks per school year, and families owning the responsibility of educating their children. We believe this model not only saves parents money, but provides an optimal education for their children.
Referral and family discount
-
The referral fee is a $250 credit towards tuition in the upcoming (non-current) school year. Please be sure the new student writes your name as the referral source on their application. New students can only declare one referral source. We appreciate any student you refer regardless of the outcome.
-
The family discount is $250 for the 2nd and/or third child enrolled in the school.
-
NOTE: The maximum combined referral and family discount is $500 per school year.
Tuition payment schedule
-
The application fee and registration fees are due at the time of application.
-
One week prior to the fall semester the balance of tuition, tuition insurance (optional), and the supply fee are due.
-
Breakfast and Lunch plan payments are due 1 week prior to each semester.
-
For a 10% premium, parents are allowed to pay tuition in 3 installments: $2,500 registration fee due at registration, $1,825 due 1 week prior to the first semester, and $1,825 due 1 week prior to the second semester. Please note that if this payment option is selected, families are still committing to an annual school year and annual tuition. That is, regardless of the payment plan option, full annual tuition becomes due and payable once you commit to send your child to the School of the Seven Sages - even if you withdraw your child before the end of the school year.
Competitive Analysis
The analysis below is for grades 1-4 during the 2016 - 2017 school year. The analysis considers an equivalent level of private school education for 39 weeks per year - nearly all other schools have a 36 week school year, so 3 weeks of summer camp have been added to their cost. No monetary value is given for travel time to school, gas expense, extra family bonding time, or parental volunteer time. For the purpose of this analysis the following costs are considered to be equal at each of the schools: lunch, uniforms vs the cost of buying clothing to comply with dress codes, and elective expenses (music, athletics, language tutor, etc.)
NOTE: Price Sample 2 is also a hybrid program, but only offers class 2 days per week (NOT the 2.5 offered by School of the Seven Sages). Additionally, each school day at Price Sample 2 is 3 hours and 10 minutes shorter. School of the Seven Sages offers more recess and bonding time to make friends!
